We've made improvements to the site and made it easier to use. Find more resources, a brand-new look and feel and much more in the coming weeks. http://talentmarket.monster.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FREE AGENT GUIDE: Why You Need (More) Disability Insurance Q: What's worse than dying young? A: Becoming totally disabled and losing the power to earn an income. That's why disability insurance may be even more important to free agents than life insurance. John Rossheim educates you about this vital form of protection and tells you what to look for in a disability policy. http://content.talentmarket.monster.com/weeklyarticle/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FREE AGENT POLL: We Asked, You Answered Last week we asked: Which Internet media do you use to market yourself online? 29% My business' own Web site. 27% Talent auctions. 20% Advertising on other Web sites. 19% Email and listservs. 3% Newsgroups and forums. Total: 130 votes This week's question: Who prepares the taxes for your business? Cast your vote here: http://talentmarket.monster.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TAX SEASON COUNTDOWN: Final Tip: Build a Better Future with a SEP IRA If you like traditional or Roth IRAs as a vehicle for socking away money for retirement while gaining a tax advantage, you should love the SEP IRA. Why? Because you may be able to put so much more money into it, up to 15 percent of your net earnings from self-employment. As with other types of IRAs, you can make a contribution to a SEP IRA for tax year 1999 as late as the tax-filing deadline, which is April 17 this year. Read on for details, then consult your tax advisor. http://www.irs.gov/prod/forms_pubs/pubs/p171807.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HEARD ON THE BOARD: How to Quit Two Jobs that Add Up to No Future Monster member Suzette recently asked: "I have a master's degree in English and have spent the past (gasp!) eight years teaching Freshman Composition at two universities. I'm part time at each school, non- tenure track, and have no future at either place. On the side, I'm writing a mystery book for children -- what I've always wanted to do. But how can I get out of teaching, be a full-time writer, AND have money? Please help!" The Free Agent Advisor answers: "Sure it's tough to make the transition from a regular job (which you have, more or less) to free agency. But you have a good shot at it if you play your cards right…" Read the rest here: http://forums.monster.com/viewmessage.asp?messageid=877864 Post your own question on one of these Monster Talent Market message boards: Ask the Free Agent Advisor http://boards.talentmarket.monster.com/forum.asp?forum=800 Ask the Work-from-Home Coach http://boards.talentmarket.monster.com/forum.asp?forum=801 Or chat live with the Free Agent Advisor Fridays at 2 p.m. ET or with the Work-from-Home Coach Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
